KALIMA’s new ALBUM „EVERYTHING WITHIN“ is OUT NOW!
FIRST REVIEWS :: EVERYTHING WITHIN
Three powerful women ... outstanding arrangements ... the wonderful band Kalima.
Melodiva (D) 04/13 Hildegard Bernasconi
A truly outstanding sound spectacle, on an exceptional degree of homogeneity and diversity, at the top of contemporary music.
Jazzzeitung (D) 04/13 H.-J. von Osterhausen
Sascha Ley’s dark sultry voice shapes the music of the trio, that is dominated by an avant-garde expression, while Ley’s researching voice rubs against Kaftan’s gloomy buzzing bass clarinet - there are obvious influences from new contemporary music and modern chamber-jazz.
Jazz thing (D) 04/13 (Rolf Thomas)
Radio ARA (L) 03/13 (Ron Tuffel)
Sincere and surprising, daring and varied, taking and intriguing...
Le Quotidien (L) 03/13 (Pablo Chimienti)
Vocal jazz fans with a penchant for world music should go insane over this release. (...) New sounds, new approaches, and a new way of looking at vocal jazz. Incredibly creative.
CriticalJazz (USA) 02/13 (Brent Black)
An extraordinary trio. A wonderful symbiosis of modern chamber jazz and world music. Splendid melodies and rhythms appear out of these very tight compositions. A great and a very exciting album.
Radio BRF (B) 02/13 (Hans Reul)
Original chamber jazz..., colorful and flamboyant, silky and sensitive (…), revealing an incredible variety of sounds (…) and a repertoire ranging from mystic ballads and spirited jazz improvisations to sparkling exotic rhythms. The music of Kalima is simply great fun. It is a real pleasure to immerse yourself into their sound. For the most part self-composed, the songs are individually elaborated compositions with their own unique charm and character.
D’Land (L) 02/13 (Marc Fiedler)
"Everything Within" is a musical journey with sophisticated compositions, creating an almost intimate nearness. Laia Genc and Anne Kaftan’s play is virtuos, and Sascha Ley fits in perfectly with her contralto voice, sounding relaxed, sovereign and natural. A musical dialogue, very much aware of being balanced.

SASCHA & GREENPEACE Save the Arctic!
In 2012 Greenpeace has launched a new campaign to save the Arctic. Because the melting Arctic is under threat, not only from climate change, but from oil drilling and industrial fishing. Shell, Gazprom and others oil companies want to risk a devastating Arctic oil spill for only three years' worth of oil. And industrial fishing fleets are starting to trawl Arctic waters. To save the Arctic, we have to act today. Thanks for signing the petition on savethearctic.org.
